Wasim Akram Malik, 24, the main conspirator of the Delhi high court blast that took place on September 7 last year, had a middle class upbringing in Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir. His father, a government employee, sent him to Bangladesh to pursue MBBS. Like any other youngster of his age, he had his fair share of girlfriends in India and Bangladesh.

But NIA investigators claim he also led a parallel life. He liked the al Qaeda, voraciously read about Osama bin Laden and Ayman al Zawahiri, did not like the US for its attitude towards Islam and felt for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, his native state.

Investigators believe that after planning the operation to bomb the HC, Wasim took help from Hizbul Mujahideen cadres to execute the bombing. Wasim was arrested a month after the blast. Now, the NIA is all set to file a chargesheet against Wasim and his associate Amir Abbas Dev on Monday.

"To get a peep into the mind of Wasim, a medical student-turned-terror accused, the NIA took help of experts from the Institute of Behavioral Science of the Gujarat Forensic Sciences University," said a source.

Wasim’s psychological profile will be part of the chargesheet. Profiling experts noted that Wasim feels the execution of death penalty given to Afzal Guru, a convict in the 2001 Parliament attack case, would result in disturbance in Kashmir.

According to investigators, Wasim believed that the courts didn’t give justice to Guru and so he bombed the HC. He also felt that Kashmiris are humiliated without any fault of theirs.

Despite having a colourful personal life, he explained how women were treated with respect in Islam and why they should remain in burqa. He also explained why he believes Islam is the only correct path for all.
