A day after the judges of the Supreme Court decided to make their assets public, modalities are being worked out for expediting the procedure for making the declaration on the official website of the apex court.
"The final resolution has been drafted and that is on circulation among the judges. They are likely to sign it shortly but it will take some time for them to make the assets public," a source in the apex court said.
The source said since it is the first time such an exercise was being taken up, some modalities have to be worked out which would require some time.
"There will be some delay and as such no cut off date has been fixed for declaration of their assets," the source said.
Among the procedure likely to be followed after the signing of the resolution by the judges, Chief Justice of India KG Balakrishnan would give the final approval for placing it on the official website.
The source said that since the resolution was passed in principle in a full court meeting, there is no question of any judge going back on the issue.
Under mounting public pressure and from within, the judges of the Supreme Court on Wednesday decided to make public their assets, an issue that had been haunting higher judiciary for quite some time.
The decision came after months of public debate over making public the details of higher judiciary, especially the apex court judges and their families, ever since the Right to Information law triggered a clamour on the issue.
