A decomposed human leg was found in an open ground in northwest Delhi's Bhalaswa Dairy area on Wednesday morning, creating panic in the area. A police uniform was also found a few metres away.
Police said a child had seen some stray dogs dragging the leg and informed a passerby, who called the police control room.
Though the police were trying to recover the other missing parts of the body, the recovery of a police uniform in a bag, a few metres away, left them baffled.
Senior officers, however, believe that there is no connection between the recovered human body part and the police uniform. But they registered a case of murder and were probing the matter.
Investigators were trying to ascertain whether the leg belongs to a man or a woman.
"We have registered a case of murder and are yet to link the body part with the police uniform. Search is on for the remaining parts. The body part has been sent to a forensic lab to identify the gender," said a officer.
