Delhi civic elections: Pen drives with Congress’ candidate data get infected
Many of the pen drives, containing information of municipal election ticket hopefuls and their resumes, are infected with virus. The party is now working overtime to transfer data from virus-infected storage devices to the main server, which is delaying the procedure of selection of party candidates.
The process to scrutinise applications for municipal election tickets by Delhi Congress has hit by an unexpected roadblock. Many of the pen drives, containing information along with resumes submitted by aspirants, are infected with virus. The party is now working overtime to transfer data from virus-infected storage devices to the main server, which is delaying the procedure of selection of party candidates.
After the state unit chief Ajay Maken has asked ticket hopefuls to submit their candidatures digitally, it received around 12,000 pen drives.
“Data from these pen drives was to be fed in the CRM (software) for examination and filtration. People in large numbers got their documents saved from outside (cybercafés or vendors). Maybe for this reason, the devices have virus. They are being cleaned now. So, the entire process is getting delayed,” the Congress leader said.
The Congress has set up a call centre to verify the credentials and acceptability of tickets seekers by calling people supporting their candidatures. The former Union minister said because of the delay in the processing of data, ‘calling’ has begun in one ward only.
“This cleansing has delayed the process. So far, we have started the calling process in a ward. Data transfer may take another two days. We will engage more calling executives to complete the procedure well in time,” Maken said.
At present, 30 calling executives are working and direction has been given to rope in 20 more,” said Maken.
“With their application form, several of them have submitted their images in large number to substantiate their claim and to show that they have been carrying out activities or working for the party for long. We have received more than two lakh pictures approximately,” he added.
Chhattar Singh, a senior Congress functionary said that the party has also started internal party survey of probable at assembly and district level.
“Survey of all 14 districts is being supervised by a former Delhi minister or an MLA. A senior party leader is looking after an assembly. Based on its findings and applications received at party headquarters, the suitable contestants will be picked,” he said.
