Delhi councillor roughs up health official

delhi Updated: Aug 23, 2007 05:16 IST

A Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) member of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday allegedly roughed up a health official for not spraying anti-malaria insecticide in his ward in west Delhi.

Pankaj Jain, representing ward number 121 in Nangoli area, asked MCD inspector Ramesh Kumar, who was spraying insecticide in an adjacent ward, to do the same in his area. Kumar refused, saying he did not have permission to do so.

According to MCD sources, Jain then turned violent and thrashed Kumar, who suffered injuries on head, face and back.

Police said they registered a case against Jain and he would be arrested shortly.
