A couple travelling in a high-end SUV hit two men riding a motorcycle at inner circle in Connaught Place on Wednesday. Police said the couple was heavily drunk and created ruckus after the accident. A medical examination conducted on them at RML Hospital confirmed the presence of alcohol in their body beyond permissable limits.

The duo, the woman in particular, beat up the injured bikers, manhandled and misbehaved with some police personnel even as their rash and negligent driving led to the accident.

Police said the couple has been booked in two separate cases--the car driver for rash and negligent driving and the woman for preventing government officials from performing their duties.

Jatin Narwal, deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi), said the couple was in their car when the vehicle hit a motorcycle. Eyewitnesses rushed to help the two injured men who were thrown off their bike because of the accident.

“When another biker and some passersby prevented the couple from fleeing the accident spot, they entered into a verbal argument. During the scuffle, they beat up the injured bikers and used abusive language when eyewitnesses tried to stop them,” said a police officer.

Claiming herself to be the daughter of a senior officer in Crime Branch/CBI, the woman threatened everybody to face dire consequences if they intervened in the matter. Soon, some traffic cops and personnel from the Connaught Place police station arrived at the accident spot.

“As the woman was asked to accompany the cops to the police station, she became aggressive and misbehaved with the police staff. She was somehow made to sit in the police van and taken to the police station where she continued threatening police personnel, the officer said.

The couple was later taken to RML Hospital for medical examination where the woman repeated the same misbehavior with doctors and medical staff.

“We have registered two separate cases. One against the car driver at the Connaught Place police station and another against the woman for preventing government officials from performing duties at the North Avenue police station,” said Narwal, adding the driver is a doctor who owns a private hospital in Noida.

“The woman with the doctor was a former HR executive at his hospital. We will arrest them in connection with the cases,” he said.
