A Delhi-based couple was arrested for running an international racket of women trafficking, police said here on Tuesday.

According to the police, Ayesha and her husband Aijaz Ahmed were arrested on Monday from Jamia Nagar. A Gurgaon court on Tuesday sent them to judicial custody. The accused were arrested after a complaint was lodged by Naveen Chawla, who alleged that the couple sold his wife Neelam after taking her abroad on the pretext of a job.

Neelam, 37, a resident of Shivaji Nagar, Gurgaon, has been missing since July after she came in contact with the couple while chatting on internet.

“The accused lured her for a job abroad and called Neelam. Since then she has been reportedly missing,” said Abey Singh Rao, DCP west, Gurgaon police.

The police traced the accused by tracking their mobile phones but the victim is still missing.
