The two men, who are yet to be arrested for the brutal gangrape of a 23-year-old woman, are believed to be among the six men who sexually assaulted the physiotherapist who is struggling for her life in a Delhi hospital.Three days later, these men are still free even as the whole nation has erupted in outrage against the dastardly crime.
Two of the four arrested men, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma, have confessed to their involvement in the brutal act on Tuesday. One of them, Mukesh, has pleaded innocence and Ram Singh, the main accused, has refused to undergo a test identification Parade (TIP). Sources said the chances are that the two men who are yet to be traced were among the four to have sexually assaulted the victim.
An eight-member Delhi Police team has been making rounds of one of the ab sconders Akshay Thakur's residence in Aurangabad's Ram Nagar village. Another team is camping in Rajasthan to arrest Raju. Sources said there they might be hiding in Delhi or NCR.
"Thakur's parents, relatives and neighbours have been questioned about his whereabouts but to no avail. Two of his brothers who stay in Delhi are also being questioned to know if he has contacted them after the horrific crime," said an officer. He added that more than 50 men from Bihar Police were assisting them in the search operation, which is underway in the 'Naxal-affected' zone.
Meanwhile, sources said Ram Singh, 33, the main accused in the case, had revealed gory details about the fateful evening. Police said Singh's life began going downhill soon after he ran away with a married woman from the same slum cluster where he was staying four years ago.
"The incident not only made his neighbours and friends ostracise him; even his family decided to abandon him," an officer claimed. The second-eldest of five brothers, two of Singh's brothers moved away to Saket while one of them still says in Ravidas Camp slum cluster but has severed his link with him.
"Only Mukesh stays with him even as he became more and more mentally volatile. He was known to everyone he knew as 'Mental'. Things worsened after he broke both his arms in an accident and became medically unfit," the officer said. He had fraudulently obtained a licence from Rajasthan to obtain a job as a bus driver.
