Taking a cue from the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) launched by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last year, the national capital has got its own “vision” to tackle global warming.
Prepared by Delhi Chief Secretary Rakesh Mehta, the document titled “Climate Change: Vision Delhi” elaborates on the government’s vision to deal with the threat from climate change by implementing green initiatives to cut down green house gas emissions causing global warming.
Air pollution, noise pollution, water pollution and transport sectors are some of the critical areas where the document focuses to chalk out strategy in the next three years to make the national capital “a clean and green” city.
“Besides we need to add two more to the agenda for change namely land and knowledge. If we address each of these five areas in a holistic manner, and put in place an agenda to be implemented in the next three years, we can make a big difference to Delhi’s environment,” Mehta said while sharing the details of document with PTI.
In the transport sector, the document envisages deployment of over 10,000 CNG-run buses by next year even as its Metro project has already started earning carbon credits.
