After much delay, the Delhi government has released funds to Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) for various Commonwealth Games projects the civic body has undertaken.
Delhi mayor Kanwar Sain said the state government on Wednesday released an amount of Rs 800 crore, the first installment of the Rs 1,500 crore sanctioned to the civic body.
“We have received the amount required till next March. The remaining 700 crore will be given to us on March 31, next year, the chief minister has assured us,”he said.
MCD had been pursuing the state government to release funds for months now. Last week, Sain along with Leader of the MCD House Subhash Arya and other senior BJP leaders had met CM Sheila Dikshit, requesting her to release funds at the earliest so that the speed of work does not get affected. Dikshit had assured them funds would be released soon after Diwali.
The MCD’s plan to improve roads, building two flyovers and 18 railway under-bridges is running behind schedule due to the non-availability of funds.
GoM for projects
A Group of Ministers headed by Union urban development minister S. Jaipal Reddy will review regularly and take final decisions on all important matters pertaining to various projects being undertaken for Commonwealth Games 2010, Union sports minister M. S. Gill has said.
