A 28-year-old woman was bludgeoned to death with a baseball bat, allegedly by her husband, in east Delhi on Tuesday night. The incident occurred following an argument over the man’s drinking habit, the police said.
The deceased, identified as Priya, lived with her husband Vinod Kumar in Chilla village. Kumar is absconding and efforts are on to nab him.
The crime was reported to the police by the couple’s landlady, Zubeida Begum. A police team reached the flat and found Priya lying on the floor in a pool of blood.
“She was unconscious when the police rushed her to a hospital where doctors pronounced her dead on admission,” a senior police officer said.
A case of murder was registered against Vinod on the basis of Zubeida Begum’s statement. Investigators also seized the baseball bat allegedly used for the murder and found blood on it.
“The couple fought frequently over Kumar’s drinking. Since Kumar used to return home after consuming alcohol every night, Priya used to argue with him and often scolded him for it,” said the police officer.
On Tuesday, Vinod allegedly returned home drunk and in a fit of rage after being reprimanded, he committed the crime.
“He was present at the crime spot holding the bat in his hand when the landlady arrived there after hearing the commotion in the flat. He fled after seeing her there,” the officer added.
