The double-decker train between Delhi and Jaipur has not yet got clearance for its first journey, which was expected to take place by the middle of July.

However, the train service has found mention in the Northern Railway timetable, which is coming into effect on Friday.

The Jaipur-Delhi-Sarai Rohilla train is supposed to run daily, but the Northern Railway authorities are uncertain when they can start the service, announced by the then railway minister Mamata Banerjee in the rail budget of 2011.

“We have not yet got clearance from the commissioner of railway safety. We will roll out the service the moment we get that,” said SK Budhalakoti, general manager, Northern Railway, while releasing on Thursday the timetable, which has the routes 23 new trains will take.

Now the railways are promising the service will be rolled out “anytime before March 2012”. “We will do everything needed to get the clearance. And we will start the train before the end of this financial year,” Budhalakoti said.
According to the plan, each of the indigenously designed coaches (13 in all) will house 128 passengers, making it possible for 1,664 passengers to travel.

Having only AC chaircars, the train will leave Delhi at 5.35pm and reach Jaipur by 10.05pm, stopping at Gurgaon and Delhi Cantonment. On its way back, it will depart from Jaipur at 6am.Tourists and businesspersons are expected to be major consumers of this service.

The timetable includes two new twice-a-week Durontos — one each to Mumbai Central and Ajmer. It has also increased the frequency of five other trains. The Sealdah Duronto will now run four times a week instead of twice.

The Ajmer Shatabdi, Dibrugarh (Assam) Rajdhani, Delhi Sarai Rohilla-Udaipur and Dehradun AC Express will
run daily.
