A female crew member of Thai origin was allegedly molested by an inebriated businessman aboard a Delhi-bound international flight on Saturday.
The victim hails from Bangkok and is in her mid-20s. Police have registered a case and the accused businessman, a father of two, has been arrested.
Police sources claimed that the incident took place aboard Thai Airways’ flight TG 315 around 11:30pm on Saturday and was brought to their notice after the flight landed at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) at midnight.
“The businessman has been identified as Mohinder Singh, 45, a property dealer who stays in Karol Bagh,” said an investigating officer.
Singh, sources said, had boarded the flight at Bangkok around 8:30pm and had drunk too much.
According to the woman’s statement, Singh allegedly molested and verbally abused her when she was stationed at the crew jump seat near the restrooms located at the aircraft’s front-end.
“She claimed that Singh, who was visibly drunk, first struck a conversation with her and suddenly started calling her names,” said the officer.
As she struggled to come to terms with the situation and alerted the captain, Singh was made to return to his seat by the woman’s colleagues even as he created a ruckus all the way down the aisle.
Meanwhile, the pilot alerted the flight’s ground staff at the IGI airport and the Air Traffic Control (ATC), in turn, was intimated about the incident minutes before the flight was due to land.
“Singh was intercepted while being escorted off the flight at the Arrival Terminal and handed-over to us. He has been arrested,” said the officer.
Singh has been arrested and a case of molestation and outraging the modesty of a woman has been slapped against him.
