Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra has written to Commissioner of Police YS Dadwal, seeking better security at Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD)-run schools.
The mayor’s request comes after a Class IV student was raped inside an MCD school in Ashok Vihar.
Mehra asked the police commissioner to take all necessary steps to prevent such incidents in future. “I would like to express deep concern over the fact that the culprits have not been nabbed till now. The culprits should be arrested at the earliest and handed exemplary punishment. It would be the first step towards building confidence among parents, students and teachers alike,” she said.
Mehra said that there was an urgent need to increase patrolling around MCD schools, particularly during assembly, recess and closure.
