A 37-year-old businessman was allegedly beaten up outside his house in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh by over 20 men who also vandalized his new car.

Police said the incident occurred at around 9pm on Saturday when the three main accused were trying to make their way through a wedding procession on the road outside Praveen Bindal’s house. When people who were part of the procession objected, the trio tried to reverse the car and grazed Bindal’s new Swift Dzire parked outside his residence, police said.

The argument spiraled out of control when Bindal tried to damage the other car. “Upset over the damage to his new car, Bindal demanded payment for repairs and upon being denied the same he tried to scratch the car of the accused,” said a police official.

The men then called their friends from a nearby area. “The accused, along with 20 friends, smashed the car’s windows with cricket bats and stones. They then thrashed Bindal,” the official added.

The matter didn’t end there as another free-for-all ensued at the Acharya Shree Bhikshu Hospital where all the men were taken. “Things got out of control and even led to doctors vacating the hospital. Additional force had to be called in from the Moti Bagh police station to subdue to the crowd,” an official said. The three main accused, who fired a counter FIR, were identified as Rajneesh Vohra, Vijesh Vohra and Akshay Vohra.

Police registered a case of assault and damaging private property based on statements of both parties.
