Delhi molestation case

A ‘jilted lover’, who was jailed for two months in a molestation case, stabbed the complainant to death and critically injured her mother on Friday morning, a day after he was released from Tihar on bail.

The crime took place in northeast Delhi’s Welcome area.

The 19-year-old victim was sleeping in her room when the accused attacked her with a knife. When her mother rushed to save her, the man, identified as Ayub Akshar, 23, attacked her as well.

After killing the woman and injuring her mother, Akshar fled but the police arrested him later in the day. The police recovered the knife used in the crime. The police said Ayub had earlier attempted to kill her on Thursday evening while she was returning home from a nearby market.

A senior police officer said the woman and her mother were earlier tenants at a house owned by the father of the accused in Kabootar Market area of Welcome. It was at that time Ayub allegedly made advances towards the girl. When she spurned him for several months, he had allegedly molested her in July this year.

“The woman had then filed a molestation complaint with the police against Ayub. He was arrested on July 13 and later sent to jail. The woman and her family shifted to another accommodation in Z-Block of Welcome soon after Ayub’s arrest as tension brewed between the two families,” said the senior officer.

At about 7.15 am on Friday, the victm was sleeping in the room when Ayub forcefully entered her house on the second floor of the building. “He attacked her repeatedly with a knife. The girl’s mother rushed to her rescue on hearing her cries for help. But she too was attacked,” the officer added.

Other members of the family and neighbours heard their cries and rushed to the house but Ayub had already escaped by then. A neighbour informed the police and the mother-daughter duo were rushed to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital.

The 19-year-old was pronounced dead on admission while her mother was undergoing treatment for severe injuries. The victim’s family alleged it was a revenge attack for filing the police complaint.

“Ayub would mercilessly tease my sister. We had approached police after she was physically molested by him,” the victim’s younger sister told police.
