If you’re a Dilli Haat fan, there’s some good news for you.

Come Commonwealth Games 2010, you would be able to enjoy the same experience on a much larger scale. The Delhi government is planning to convert the ITPO venue at Pragati Maidan into a cultural extravaganza for visitors and residents for almost a month around the Games.

So you would be able to enjoy cuisine from different states, along with their handicraft and textiles.

And if you don’t land a ticket at any of the more exclusive events at Delhi’s monuments, you’’ll be able to enjoy cultural performances at Pragati Maidan. If you are one of those Delhiites who finish work late, you could even venture into Pragati Maidan for a spot of night-shopping.

“This would be a one-stop destination for any tourist in Delhi where they would be able to enjoy the colours and tastes of India under one roof. Apart from food stalls, performances by artistes from all states and Union Territories of the country is also on the cards as Commonwealth Games 2010 is not just about Delhi,” said Delhi culture secretary Rina Ray.

She said while final modalities were still being planned, there were also plans to introduce special pick-up and drop facilities for women visitors from various points in the city. “We are trying to make this a women-friendly event. Women in Delhi also need to relax and enjoy cultural events without worrying about returning home,” added Ray.

Government officials said a plan was being devised to set up the plan for pick-up and drop facility to Pragati Maidan from Metro rail stations. For those athletes and officials who may not be able to venture out of the Games village due to security reasons or otherwise, special cultural events are planned every day within the venue.
