Another Mewat-based 'cattle snatcher', with a Rs. 1 lakh bounty on his head and wanted for his alleged involvement in the murder of a Delhi Police constable during a high-speed getaway in northwest Delhi, was arrested by the crime branch, police said on Friday.
Identified as Shakir, the college dropout was one of the eight to nine 'Mewati cattle lifters' who had injured three persons and killed constable Naresh Kumar Verma while trying to steal cattle from Bharat Nagar on the night of May 19, said SBS Tyagi, DCP (crime and railways).
"On the morning of November 2, Shakir was arrested from near the Matka Peer Dargah adjacent to Pragati Maidan at about 4.45 am," DCP Tyagi said. On the day of the incident, the police went to Bharat Nagar to investigate a complaint where they found an injured person who said that some cattle-lifters in a tempo had assaulted him.
A constable chased the tempo on his bike but fell.
Another constable, Naresh Verma, joined the chase when the men on the tempo pelted stones on him and rammed the tempo against his bike. He fell and died on the spot.
