The Delhi Police have arrested a criminal who was wanted in the kidnapping of a Noida-based businessman.

Kapil Gupta had been kidnapped on September 24 by a notorious gang, active in UP.

His family had to pay the gang a ransom of R5 crore for his release. However, a few gang members had been arrested by the Noida Police some time ago. However, they had been looking for other members of the gang and had declared them as absconding.

"The police had found out that the Monu Gurjar gang had been responsible for Gupta's kidnap. The special staff of south district got a tip-off about the presence of Sumit Kumar, a member of this gang in the area. On Saturday, Kumar was arrested from Chirag Delhi," Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south) said.

"A team was present near Bhagat Singh College and around 4pm a person came to its main gate. The police informer identified him as Kumar and he was apprehended," Sharma added.

During interrogation Kumar revealed that he was Gurjar's cousin.

Kumar lives with his maternal uncle and helps him in his property dealing business. Gurjar used to visit his office with his associates quite frequently. Gurjar had been arrested earlier several times by the Uttar Pradesh police.

"In September, Gurjar came to Kumar's office with his associates and asked him to provide a rented house as they were planning to kidnap a big businessman. Accordingly, Kumar arranged for a rented house in Alpha sector, Greater Noida where the gang kept Kapil Gupta hostage," Sharma added.

The Delhi Police have informed their Noida counterparts about Kumar's arrest.
