The Crime Branch of the Delhi Police arrested a 28-year-old man who killed four people in April. The accused was arrested from Azadpur Sabzi Mandi on Sunday.
Police said accused Ram Dayal alias Mohan Passi is involved in 17 cases of heinous crimes in Uttar Pradesh and was trying to set up base in Delhi. “He was trying to form a gang in Delhi and had got in touch with local criminals,” said a police officer.
On April 25, the headman of Azamgarh village (in UP) and some others were on their way back home when Passi hurled six crude bombs into the vehicle. Four people were killed on the spot.
Passi reportedly wanted to seek revenge from the village head as he had reportedly implicated him in false abduction and drugs cases.
Passi’s father was posted with the Indian Railways in Assam.
“When his father retired, the family returned to their native place where Passi found that his ancestral land of 16-17 bighas had been usurped by his relatives. He formed an alliance with the village head and decided to seek revenge from his relatives. In the meantime, the village head double crossed Passi and implicated him in false criminal cases. It was then that Passi decided to seek revenge,” said Satyendra Garg, additional commissioner of police (crime).
Police said the accused was also involved in 17 criminal cases.
The Uttar Pradesh Police had even declared a reward of Rs 10,000 on his arrest.
“We have informed the UP police about his arrest. Further investigations are on,” Garg said.
