Its not just the investors in Noida, but the Delhi Police personnel are also facing housing problems. The Delhi police, this year, could only provided accommodation to 19% of its over 83,000 personnel even after setting up an ambitious target of having quarters for 40% of its men.
The city police had provided official accommodation to 16,031 personnel till July 31 against the total strength of 83,762, a senior police official said.
According to the Delhi police figures, there is only one Type-VI residence available for the force whereas 31 officers above the rank of joint commissioner are eligible for such a flat. Though 126 officers in the rank of ACP and DCP are eligible for Type-V quarters, there are only 47 such flats.
Similarly, for over 350 Additional Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners, there are only 246 flats. For 6,624 Inspectors and Sub-Inspectors, there are only 1,586 Type-III bungalows while there are 8,774 Type-II quarters for 8,774 Assistant Sub-Inspectors and Head Constables. For the remaining 76,613 personnel, there are only 5,377 government quarters available. However, this year’s figure is better than that of last year when the city police could manage to provide accommodation to only 17.89% of its 83,740 personnel.
A Parliamentary panel had rapped the Delhi Police last year for announcing targets which cannot be achieved, saying the force should try to keep only realistic targets.“The ministry should take up the matter of ready flats for Delhi Police with DDA, and the authority, on its part, should make provision for 500 flats every year for the force,” the panel had observed.
