Thirteen 'test events' and innumerable mock drills later, the Delhi Police claims it is in good shape for the Commonwealth Games.
Special Commissioner of Police (administration) Neeraj Kumar said Delhi Police's security equipment, coupled with its officers' vigilance, would be good enough.
“We are sure of our capabilities and will make the basic equipment, that we already have, work for us,” Kumar said.
SEEKING SC NOD TO REMOVE SPEED GOVERNORS
The Delhi Police had recently moved an application in the Supreme Court seeking permission to get speed governor devices installed by default on low-floor buses to be used for ferrying athletes and other officials during the CWG.
“If there is a contingency, speed governors will not help us and might actually end-up hampering a quick response. So, we are seeking the permission of the court to remove them from the bus fleet to be used to transport athletes and other dignitaries,” he said.
5-TIER SECURITY SYSTEM
Kumar said the Delhi Police was ready with a 'foolproof', five-tier security apparatus for the Games.
“Different levels of security have been prescribed. From ticket checking on the streets to the fifth level - referred to as the 'exclusion zone', where physical frisking will be done, everything is in place,” he said.
