The Delhi government has been maintaining that there is no shortage of power in the city and that there is a provision for more power if the need arises, but the discoms were not performing routine maintenance and getting their act together.

“Over the last 14-15 years, private discoms have either not spent enough on maintenance or have not carried out good quality maintenance checks. There should not be such a high number of complaints. We have asked power companies to put together quick response teams to redress the complaints,” Delhi Power Minister Satyendra Jain said.

Kejriwal had earlier said that his government has given policy directions to the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC), adding that unscheduled power cuts have to be fixed within two hours and if that doesn’t happen, the people in that area must be compensated.

“We are keeping an eye on each and every fault. Why did we privatise power 15 years ago? For improvement, not tariff hikes. Discoms have to be held accountable. They keep blaming local faults. BSES areas have been experiencing more power cuts while TPDDL (Tata Power) areas have faced fewer snags,” Kejriwal said. (ANI)
