The 11-month-old daughter of awoman was allegedly held hostage at gunpoint by a man while his accomplice looted jewellery and other valuables worth about Rs 2 lakh from her house in north-east Delhi's Mansarovar Park, police said on Sunday.

The robbers allegedly assaulted the woman when she tried to raise an alarm. The victim Divya, 23, is a housewife and her husband Vishal (27) works for a private firm in Gurgaon.

The incident occurred around 10pm on Friday when Vishal was out of home and Divya was with her baby daughter Shreshti.

Two strangers had knocked at the door and told Divya that they wanted to meet Vicky, which happens to be her husband's pet name. As soon as Divya opened the door, the duo barged into and latched it from inside, police said.

The woman tried to raise an alarm, but one of them allegedly pulled out a pistol and kept it pointed at her sleeping daughter's forehead till she agreed to keep quiet, police said.

The other assailant, allegedly collected four gold bangles, eight gold rings and two gold earrings among other jewellery items.

"While fleeing, the duo also took away her mobile phone to stop her from calling the police immediately," a police officer said. Since the assailants were aware of Vishal's pet name, police suspect the involvement of someone known to the victim's family.
