The terror attack that killed over 130 students in Pakistan’s Peshawar has jolted city schools into taking all possible measures to tighten security in and around their campus. Many schools reported a drop in attendance after the attack.

Laxman Public School has sent out safety guidelines to parents and also issued special identity cards for staff, parents and guardians who want to enter the campus.

“No one will be allowed to cross the school gate without an ID-card. We have also increased the length of barbed wires on the boundary wall and deployed extra security guards at the gates,” said Usha Ram, principal, Laxman Public School.

Other schools like Amity, Pushp Vihar are organising special drills and crises management workshops for students and staff members. “We arranged for a talk by the police for all our students to deal with a possible terrorist attack or any other emergency situation,” said Ameeta Mohan, principal, Amity School, Pushp Vihar.

Delhi Public School, Noida has gone a step further and cancelled all scheduled activities. It even deferred a parent-teacher meeting to strengthen the security system for students.

The Shri Ram Schools issued colour coded ID-cards for both their branches in Vasant Vihar and Gurgaon. Identity cards were also issued for vendors doing business around the school building.

The Delhi Police, on their part, on Friday organized a two-wheeler rally in North district to instil confidence in schools and among students.

Senior officials said that every police station had been ordered to heighten security around all the schools in their area.

“We want to assure and reassure people that all possible measures are being taken for their security and there is no need for panic,” said Madhur Verma, DCP (north).
