A student of Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Ravi Dhawan, 23, had always been a brilliant student. On Wednesday, he proved it again when he secured 6th rank in the UPSC examination.
The Delhi resident managed to get a rank last year as well. He was able to get through the Indian Police Service (IPS), but he always wanted to make it to the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).
Dhawan, who is currently training at Hyderabad, believes that the number of hours you put in is of no importance. “It is not a question of time but of what you do in those hours. It is important not to have too many sources of information,” said Dhawan.
“There is not much of a difference between those who have got ranks in the top 10 and those in the last 10. At the end of the day, it is about faith, support of parents and teachers and blessings of God,” he added.
Dhawan did his schooling from St George’s School, Alaknanda, and Delhi Public School, RK Puram. He then pursued BCom (honours) at SRCC. “This is a matter of pride for the college and a big inspiration for the students. A celebration is due,” said PC Jain, principal, SRCC.
Meanwhile, more than 10 students from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) are reported to have cracked the exam.
Ajay Prakash, who is pursuing his masters from JNU got the 9th rank. Three students from Jamia Millia Islamia have also managed to get through.
“The result at JNU has been very good. Five students from my hostel alone have cleared the exam,” said Pinak Mishra, an MPhil student, who got 104th rank.
Another former DU student, Smriti Bhardwaj, also managed to clear the exam. Bharadwaj studied at Lady Shri Ram College. Yet for Bhardwaj, who has got 149th rank, the wait is not over as her final department of service still remains a mystery.
“My first option was IAS, followed by IFS and finally the IRS. I doubt I’ll make it to the first two, but I sincerely hope I find place in the revenue services,” she said.
