A software engineer from Delhi died in a hit-and-run incident in Bangalore in the wee hours of Thursday.

Amritanshu Verma, 26, who was hit by a speeding vehicle, was working with Infosys.

The incident took place near the city’s BTM Layout, close to where he lived.

According to the police, Verma was coming from Tavarekere Main Road and was going towards BTM Layout on his two-wheeler.

A speeding car coming from the wrong side — from Silk Board and heading for Jaydeva Hospital — and ran him over, killing him on the spot.

The police said that though Verma was wearing a helmet, he sustained severe injuries.

After seeing him lying in a pool of blood, the local people informed the police.

Verma’s body has been sent to the Victoria Hospital for postmortem. The police are waiting for his parents to arrive.

Both his parents are doctors from Patna, who have settled in Delhi.

A hit-and-run case has been lodged against unknown persons.

The police are finding it difficult to trace the errant driver. Since the area was dark, footage from nearby CCTV cameras do not clearly show the number plate or the make of the car.

The police are planning to send the footage to forensic experts to retrieve the information.
