It’s raining big bucks for the victorious Indian team which thrashed Sri Lanka on Saturday to win the world cup.
After the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), International Cricket Council (ICC) and various other state governments announced cash prizes and freebies for the Men in Blue, Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Sunday announced a cash award of R2 crore for Indian cricket team captain MS Dhoni and R1 crore each for four Delhi players.
“The chief minister has decided to honour the Indian captain MS Dhoni by awarding him R2 crore and has also decided to give R1 crore each to Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli and Ashish Nehra for winning the coveted World Cup after 28 years,” said a Delhi government official.
Dikshit congratulated the cricket team for their spectacular performance on Saturday in which they defeated Sri
Lanka by six wickets in the World Cup final in Mumbai to lift the coveted trophy which they last won in 1983 under Kapil Dev.
