The three new civic bodies have declared the dates for mayoral elections. The municipal secretary offices have scheduled the meetings of North, East and South Delhi Municipal Corporations April 30, May 1 and May 2 respectively.
The mayor, deputy mayor and six members of the standing committees of the three civic bodies will be elected in these meetings. The meetings have been scheduled with the prior approval of the Lieutenant-Governor.
Leaders have to file their nominations till 5 pm on April 26 at the office of the municipal secretary of their respective corporations. Names can be withdrawn any time before the commencement of the elections.
The BJP is likely to fill all the key posts in the North and East Delhi Corporations. In South Delhi Corporation, the party does not have a majority and is trying to garner the support of independent councillors.
