Delhi to get respite from heat soon

"We expect that by late Monday or Tuesday morning, Delhi will get some rainfall," IMD director SC Bhan told IANS.
After rain and thundershowers of June 28, IMD officials had said that the annual monsoon had reached Delhi. But since then the city has only experienced a dry spell.
However, Bhan insists that this is a normal phenomenon. "Monsoon has indeed reached Delhi but the rainfall is going to be sporadic. It is normal as Delhi is on the fringe of monsoon activity."
"During the monsoon period of 122 days from June to September, Delhi only gets rainfall for 45 days. It usually rains heavily for a while and then there is no rain at all for two or three days," he said.
"Delhi falls in the northwest region. According to our forecast, this region is expected to receive 90 per cent seasonal rainfall during the monsoon. This is about 10 per cent below average," Bhan added.
