Two minor girls were raped in different areas of northeast Delhi, police said on Saturday.

In the first case, family members of a 12-year-old girl filed a complaint with the Mansarovar Park police station and accused a 22-year-old man of allegedly raping their minor daughter several times.

The girl's family members told police that the man allegedly befriended her and raped her after assuring her that he would marry her. It has been learnt that the two became friends while chatting with each other over a free mobile messaging application.

On the basis of their complaint, a case under the appropriate sections of POCSO Act and rape was registered against the man, identified as Pawan Kumar. He was later arrested and sent to jail.

According to the officer, the matter came to light when the girl started insisting on marrying Pawan even as neither her family members nor Pawan was ready for it.

"Our initial investigation revealed that Pawan cheated the girl and used her for sexual favours after promising to marry her. When the girl's parents learnt about her closeness with Pawan, they reprimanded her and asked her not to meet him," said the officer.

The girl, however, continued meeting Pawan and began pressuring him as well as her family members for their marriage. With no option left, the family approached the police and filed a case against Pawan. Pawan was known to the girl's family as he frequently visited their house. The girl is a Class 7 student at a government school.

In another case, an 11-year-old girl was raped allegedly by her neighbour in northeast Delhi's Sunder Nagri near Nand Nagri on Friday. Police said the girl was alone when the accused entered her house and forced himself on her. He even threatened her with dire consequences if she informed anybody about the matter.

A case of rape was registered against the accused, identified as Jon Singh, who has been absconding after the crime.
