The Delhi Police arrested a man from Rampur in Uttar Pradesh on Friday for allegedly killing his girlfriend. The accused dumped her body near a park in Lajwanti Garden area in west Delhi.

The accused Rohtas, currently pursuing graduation from Delhi University, was angry with his 20-year-old girlfriend for ignoring him. As per the initial investigation, Rohtas (24) lured the girl to his house in Vijay Enclave on the pretext of going for a movie. He then strangulated her to death.

Fearing that he would get caught, he dumped her body almost 10 km away near a park in a bag. “We received information on January 12 about a dead body lying in a bag. The body was folded and tied with the help of a ‘chunni’. There were ligature marks on the neck and injury on the head. No other details were found from the area,” said Pushpendra Kumar, DCP (west).

“A case of murder was registered at the Mayapuri police station,” Kumar added.

According to the girl’s parents, she had gone missing on January 11. “During analysis of her call details, it was revealed that she was in contact with a man named Rohtas,” said a police officer.

On raiding Rohtas’ house, it came to light that he along with his mother left Delhi on January 15 for Rampur. Rohtas was arrested from Rampur on January 16.

During investigation, Rohtas said he knew the girl through Facebook and had been in a relationship with her for the past one-and-a-half years. “They exchanged phone numbers and started dating,” said a police official.
