A 25-year-old woman lost her legs after she jumped before a train at the Janakpuri East Metro station in west Delhi.

The woman, identified as Poonam, a resident of Bhartal in Delhi, was rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital, where doctors described her condition as critical.

The incident took place at 1.08 pm and the train was heading to Noida from Dwarka.

“The incident did not affect metro services on the corridor as it happened during non-peak hours when trains were running at a 10-minute frequency,” said a spokesperson of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.

“The motive behind the suicide attempt could not be ascertained as no suicide note was found,” said a police.
