On Sunday, a 32-year-old HIV patient, Ram Chand (name changed) jumped off the seventh floor of the Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) hospital.

A resident of Gagan Vihar in Ghaziabad, Chand had been diagnosed with HIV and had tuberculosis. Chand had been suffering from severe depression, police said.

His body was found two hours after he left his bed to go to the bathroom at 4.30am.

"He was admitted to the hospital on July 28. Chand used to work as a security guard at the Institute of Human Behaviour and Allied Sciences (IBHAS)," said a senior police officer.

"Chand's condition worsened last night and, around 4:30 am; he was spotted going to the washroom by the duty nurse," said Dr Rajpal, Medical Superintendent, GTB Hospital.

Chand was admitted to the hospital on Thursday and his wife Seema was staying with him.

A post-mortem has been conducted and his body has been handed over to his family.

No suicide note was recovered from his possession.
