The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) has invited the wrath of East Delhi Member of Parliament Sandeep Dikshit. The MP’s outburst has also put his mother and Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in a spot.

Dikshit’s outburst came at the foundation laying ceremony of BSES grid station at the Commonwealth Games village site, where the CM was the chief guest.

The MP termed the DERC as a defunct body and demanded that the Delhi government should disband it. “I am very disappointed with the functioning of DERC. The regultor is far removed from ground realities. It is run by a set of people who are completely inactive and are just waiting to retire,” he said.

He added further, “This commission is doing nothing and has proved it self worthless. As an MP and a citizen of Delhi, I demand that you pull out the power of attorney from it.”

Dikshit said that he was making very serious allegations against DERC. “I demand that you (the Chief Minister) at least change the current set of people there as they are completely inactive,” he said.

However, the CM tried to distance herself from the controversy. When asked about Sandeep’s outburst, she said, “He seems to be unsatisfied with the functioning of DERC. We keep getting complaints and we look into them.”

The DERC was constituted by the Government of Delhi in 1999 and is mandated to regularize the electricity tariff, power generation and distribution.
