Hundreds of commuters were stranded at the Kashmere Gate station after services of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) were disrupted for over one hour during evening peak hour on the Dilshad Garden-Rithala Line due to problem in overhead electrical supply on Monday evening.
Trains on this line were operational only on one track between Shastri Park and Dilshad Garden. The services on this line were restored around 9 pm.
Similar problem was encountered between Chandni Chowk and Kashmere Gate stations around 7 pm. However, here the services resumed in about 15-20 minutes, DMRC Chief Spokesperson Anuj Dayal said.
He said the problem was not connected to the storm but could not give exact reason for it either.
Kshitij Bhatnagar, an accountant with a private firm, boarded the train from Chawdi Bazar at 6.45 pm. like everyday to go to her home in Dilshad Garden.
“Our train first stopped at Chandni Chowk station for 15-20 minutes. There were no lights inside the coach and those at the station were also not fully functional,” she said. “The Kashmere Gate station was total chaos. Hundreds of commuters were stranded and the escalators were not working,” Bhatnagar said.
Dayal said the problem between Chandni Chowk and Kashmere Gate lasted for about 8-9 minutes and was soon taken care of. But the problem on Line 1 (Dilshad Garden-Rithala) took longer to address.
