DU’s first cut-off list may have disappointed many, but there are many good options for students who want to pursue courses in social science this year. Ambedkar University, which was established by Delhi government in 2008, is offering three new courses at undergraduate level this year.
The new courses will be available in English, Sociology and Mathematics. The last date for applying to these courses is June 20.
Ambedkar University has some of the best faculty, which shifted from DU when this university started. Its campuses are located in Dwarka and Kashmere Gate.
The course in English will comprise epics, drama, non-fiction along with non conventional topics such lyric, songs and film. In sociology, core papers will include sociological concepts, social institutions and sociological research. In the newly introduces mathematics course, topics such as statistics, probability, cryptography and numerical analysis will be taught.
The undergraduate curriculum follows the semester system. “Our undergraduate courses are flexible. Students do not start studying their major subjects until the third semester. Until then, students study basic foundation courses in English and social sciences,” said AR Khan, dean, student services. All courses have papers touching the Indian society, constitution and citizenship.
The university also offers a four-year BA (Honours) with dual major. In a dual major, a student can graduate with a BA (Honours) in Economics and History, for example. The two subjects that he/she opts for will be his/her major.
The university’s marking system is based on credits. One semester accounts for 16 credits. AUD is the first central or state university to implement the flexible mode of learning.At the post graduate level, it has come out with new courses in English, Economics, History and Sociology.
