A day after Team Anna member Arvind Kejriwal attacked Pranab Mukherjee over corruption charges against him, the BJP came out in defence of Mukherjee.
Asked about Team Anna’s comments, former BJP president Rajnath Singh cautioned them against running down constitutional institutions.
“The President’s post is the highest constitutional post. Its dignity should not be lowered,” Singh said. This happened on a day Hazare himself congratulated Mukherjee and steered clear of saying anything about charges made against him by his team.
The BJP had been combative in its tone in the run-up to the Presidential poll, asking whether Mukherjee was holding an office of profit when he filed his nomination and even pointing fingers on his resignation from ISI Kolkata, charging that it may have been backdated.
