Associated with the Sir Gangaram Hospital with more than two decades, Dr Sanjeev Dhawan, 51, had gradually risen through the ranks before being appointed the vice-chairperson of the hospital's department of cardiology.
His neighbours and family members remember him as a skilled doctor and warm person. "Just last year, he conducted an open-heart surgery on my mother," said Usha Kharbanda, one of Dhawan's neighbours. "He came into our lives at a time when we had lost all hope. A dozen doctors had given up but he didn't," she said.
His eldest son, Samarth, is pursuing his MBBS while younger son Sarthak is studying business administration. "Whether it be general medical advice or a word on medical insurance or just any other subject in the world, Dhawan was such a warm person that his house was always teeming with visitors," said Manju Gandhi, another neighbour.
Dr JPS Sawhney, chairman, department of cardiology, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, said "Dr Dhawan was not only a good interventional cardiologist but also a very competent clinician.”
