A domestic help was arrested by West Delhi police for allegedly murdering his 82-year-old employer at her rented accommodation in the Capital.
The police said the accused Roshan Bodhra (19), from Khunti district in Jharkhand, allegedly attacked the victim Santosh Pahwa with a wooden bat used for washing clothes at her Kirti Nagar residence on Thursday.
"Bodhra was arrested from Old Delhi Railway Station where he was waiting to catch the train for his native place around 6am. We managed to track him through the servant verification process. The timely verification and proper maintenance of record of the servant at the police station helped us solve the case within hours," said V Renganathan, deputy commissioner of police (West).
The incident came to light when Dinkar Kalra (27), the victim's grandson, with whom she was staying for the past two and half years, reached the house and found her dead near the bathroom.
Kalra told police they had employed the servant through a placement agency in Karampura five months ago and that he was missing.
"He tried to contact the victim on the phone. When his grandmother did not respond, he went to the back of the house and removed the grill of the window with the help of his friend and entered the house. He found his grandmother lying in a pool of blood on the floor," added Renganathan.
The police said the almirah had been ransacked.
"After checking the verification form, the placement agency owner was also called for interrogation. The owner Surender Sahu told police that Bodhra was brought by one of his relatives for employment," added Renganathan.
