The northwest district police on Monday arrested three people in connection with last month's armed robbery at a house in east Delhi in which a newly-hired domestic help was involved.
The robbers had tied and thrashed the landlady mercilessly before fleeing with cash and jewellery worth Rs. 35 lakh from her Ashok Vihar Phase-I residence on June 25.
The domestic help, Rahul, was hired just three days before the incident. The landlady had not verified his credentials with the police.
Romil Baaniya, additional DCP (northwest), said Ram Kumar alias Monu, Arjun and Rakesh were arrested from their native place in Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district and Rs. 4.77 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs. 15 lakh were recovered from them.Rahul is still on the run, said police.
“The landlady, Manju Jain, had filed a complaint, saying two boys entered her house on June 25 and mercilessly beat her after tying her with a bed sheet at knife-point with the help of her domestic help Rahul, who was employed three days ago,” said Baaniya.
Investigation revealed that the domestic help was recommended by one Mukesh, a resident of Patel Nagar.
Mukesh's interrogation resulted in the arrest of Arjun. The accused were identified with the help of CCTV footage of Jain's neighbour. Their pictures were captured when Arjun and Monu had gone to drop Rahul to her house.
“Raids were conducted at the native places of Monu and Rakesh and they were apprehended with the robbed booty. Arjun had hatched the conspiracy,” the official said.
