Delhi High Court on Monday made it clear to warring factions at St Stephen’s College not come to court with their internal disputes saying it had no jurisdiction to intervene.
“Petitions seeking court’s intervention into the membership issue or a functioning of a governing body of a society or institution can never be a subject matter of a writ petition,” said a bench of Chief Justice Ajit Prakash Shah and Justice S Muralidhar.
The court made these remarks while clearing the decks for Election Commissioner S.Y. Qureshi to participate in the college’s governing body meeting to be held on Wednesday.
The bench was hearing a petition filed by Principal Valson Thampu challenging a single judge’s interim staying of the participation of Qureshi. Thampu had nominated Qureshi to the governing body after the controversial removal of Ajay Singhla, one of the members of the governing body.
