delhi Updated: Nov 03, 2008 00:34 IST

Two airhostesses received minor injuries after a cab crashed into their car at a traffic signal near Rajouri Garden in West Delhi around Saturday midnight.

The police said that the two women — Preeti Handa and Neha — were going towards Rajouri Garden from Kirti Nagar side in their Hyundai i10 car when the accident happened.

"When they neared Rajouri Garden, a Tata Indigo car crashed into them. The car apparently turned turtle twice before coming to a stop," said a senior police officer.

The two women got out of the car and called their friend, who arrived at the spot and went to the Rajouri Garden police station. The police rushed them to the Deen Dayal Upadhayay Hospital for a medical examination. They were given first aid and discharged later.

They were also tested for alcohol. The driver of the Indigo car was found positive for alcohol while the two women were given a clean chit.

The driver of the Indigo, Satish Kumar (32), was later arrested. Deputy Commissioner of Police, West, Sharad Aggarwal, "Satish Kumar was driving under the influence of alcohol when he hit the two women. We have charged him for rash and negligent driving."

Kumar is a driver with a cab company and was driving the company car when the accident took place. Both cars have been impounded.

There were reports that the women and their friends beat up the driver. They also allegedly abused bystanders, who claimed that the two girls, in their early twenties. were drunk. The police, however, denied these allegations.
