A Delhi Police constable’s ear was bitten off by an incensed man after the former objected to his consuming liquor with his friends in a park in Saket on Tuesday evening.

“Constable Prem was patrolling the Pushp Vihar area when he saw five men drinking at a public park in sector 5 at around 6pm,” said a senior police officer. According to the police, the men challenged the officer when he asked them to leave the park.

“Instead of complying with his directions, the men got angry and started assaulting him. In the scuffle that ensued, one of them bit off his right ear,” the officer said. He caught hold of Prem’s face and dug his teeth into his right ear.

“The constable tried his best to shake him off but the man just wouldn’t let go. He didn’t stop till he spit the man’s ear out,” said the officer.

According to the police, the men fled the scene after the incident. Constable Prem is recuperating in a private hospital. But the doctors have been unable to surgically replace the ear.

“Based on the constable’s description, we have arrested Sonu (18), a resident of Dakshin-puri, and have booked him for assaulting a public servant. His associates have also been identified and will be arrested soon,” the officer added.
