A man bludgeoned his 45-year-old wife with a laundry bat at their home in southwest Delhi’s Sagarpur area on Thursday afternoon.

Police said the man, who was allegedly drunk, killed his wife following an argument that broke out between them over his drinking habit and her refusal to lend him money to buy more alcohol. She was attacked multiple times with the laundry bat till her last breath, they said.

The accused, identified as Ram Swaroop, fled the crime scene after brutally attacking his wife, Pramila, and leaving her in a pool of blood to die. He was, however, arrested later in the evening by the local police. The couple were alone at home when the crime took place. Their two sons – Pawan and Sanjay – were out for work.

Hearing her screams, the owner of the house alerted the police. By the time police reached the spot, Pramila, had already succumbed to her injuries. She was taken to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced her dead on admission.

Her sons were informed about her death and the body was later sent to mortuary for post mortem examination. They told the police that their father is an alcoholic and he often fought with their mother under the influence of alcohol. Also, Ram Swaroop had stopped doing any work or contributing in the family’s daily expenses.

Ram Swaroop was booked for murdering his wife. Police also recovered the laundry bat that was used in the commission of the crime. The woman’s body was handed over to her sons after autopsy on Friday.
