A 46-year-old DTC bus conductor was shot dead allegedly by some unknown miscreants, meters away from his residence in southwest Delhi’s Baba Haridas Nagar near Najafgarh late on Wednesday night.

According to police, the incident took place at 10.50pm. The deceased has been identified as Ajit Singh. Preliminary investigation into the case suggests that the murder was over personal enmity.

A case of murder has been registered at Baba Haridas Nagar police station and investigation is underway. Investigators have ruled out the angle of robbery as the assailants did not take away Singh’s valuables.

A senior police officer said, Singh, who lived with his wife and children at Navin Place in Baba Haridas Nagar was on his way back home from work when the incident took place.

“The assailants waylaid him near his home and shot him in the neck. Hearing the gunshot, his family members rushed outside and saw him lying in a pool of blood.

He was rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him brought dead,” said the senior officer. “It seems that the murder was due to a personal enmity,” added the officer.

Singh is survived by his wife and two sons. His wife is a head constable with the CRPF while his elder son Manoj is a constable with the Delhi Police.
