A 21-year-old Delhi University student allegedly committed suicide by hanging from a ceiling fan in his classroom on Friday.

While the victim’s family claimed he had been murdered by his lover’s family, the police have termed it as a clear case of suicide. The victim Mohammad Amir Malik Ahmed, a second-year BA Programme student at Satyawati College in north Delhi, was found hanging in his second-floor classroom by his friends at 12.30 pm.

In the suicide note recovered by the police, Ahmed had written: “ I quit, I love you.”

Ahmed had eloped with his classmate on January 16 and was staying with her in Khajuri Khas, sources said.

The girl is pregnant, the police said. “The girl’s family had got a case of abduction registered against Ahmed. But when the couple was traced, the girl told the police that she had willingly gone with Ahmed,” said Meenu Chaudhary, DCP (northwest). “Ahmed’s family’s claims are being verified,” Chaudhary added.
