Even high-security areas in the Capital do not seem to be as secure as they are deemed to be. A third-year student of Delhi University's (DU) Jesus and Mary College and her batchmate, however, learnt it the hard way.

On Thursday afternoon, Mini (name changed) and her friend had gone to a roadside coffee outlet in Chanakyapuri when two unidentified boys drew off their brand new car.

"I had gone for coffee with a friend to an outlet after college on Thursday afternoon and had parked my Chevrolet Beat right outside it," said Mini, a resident of Faridabad in Haryana.

Mini and her friend had just ordered their favourite cups of brew when her friend asked her for the car keys to pick up her sweater. "I gave her my purse and told her to look inside it for the keys as she walked out. When my friend didn't return, I went out to see what the matter was," Mini said.

As she stepped out, she saw her friend still struggling to find the keys in her purse. So, Mini helped her in locating the keys and then went inside the coffee shop.

A minute later, her friend walked inside the shop again, looking terribly confused.

"When I asked her why she was wasting time if she didn't want to wear the sweater anyway, she told me that she hadn't been able to find the sweater because she couldn't find my car. I asked the guard about it and he told me that two boys had driven off in it five minutes ago," she said.

The police admitted that the incident was reported from the Army Battle Marg opposite the Taj Palace Hotel, at 2 pm on Thursday afternoon.

A case has been registered.
