Duo in police net for Harsh Vihar murders

Padam, 22, and his friend Bhushan Singh, 20, according to police, had used a Japanese-made pistol to gun down Sharda Prasad Tiwari, 45, and his wife Shobha, 40. They were hired by their friend Dinesh Rawal to kill the couple, in retaliation to the couple's son's elopement with Geeta — Rawal's minor sister, in December 2010.
The duo, who were picked up from Malviya Nagar metro station minutes before they had planned to proceed to Harsh Vihar to kill Rawal, had been given Rs 2 lakh as payment for eliminating Durgesh and Geeta by the latters's brother and father.
"The arrested duo went to the same school as Dinesh Rawal. Even after the Rawal family moved to their native village in Greater Noida, to save themselves from social stigma after their daughter eloped from their residence in northeast Delhi's Harsh Vihar with Tiwari, the family sought revenge. So, Dinesh and his father Ratan Singh hired the duo to kill Durgesh," said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south).
As per their plan, which took into account the fact that Durgesh would return to the city to appear for a court date on the morning of June 1, had reached the capital and stayed at Rawal's Harsh Vihar residence on the night of May 31.
Early next morning, the duo, seeking entry to the said residence to kill Durgesh after Rawal had informed them of the former's presence at his residence, located a few metres away, knocked on the door, saw and shoot his mother Shobha and, subsequently, his father Sharda Prasad as Durgesh, who hid on his terrace, escaped the massacre unhurt. But Geeta wasn't so fortunate.
"The duo returned to their native village after the episode where they were again approached by Ratan Singh, who asked them to kill Geeta, before trying their luck at eliminating Durgesh, again.
She was picked up from her relative's home in UP's Bulandshahr, shot and dumped on a road side in Jhajjar," DCP Sharma added.
