Residents of east Delhi who want to own a dog may soon have to pay licence fees. At the standing committee meeting held on Wednesday, one of the suggestions made was to charge licence fees from dog owners at the time of registration. The rates are yet to be decided.
"A large number of dogs in the city are not registered though legally they should be. The corporation must conduct a door-to-door survey for dogs and check whether they are registered. The owners must also pay a licence fee," Manoj Tyagi, a councillor said.
According to Tyagi, since buffalo owners are already being charged licence fees, other pets should also be included.
